Credit Risk Analyst

Description

Alliant Credit Union, the largest credit union in Illinois, is seeking a candidate who will be responsible for analyzing front-end operations of Consumer Lending, overseeing advanced decision management software for originations, and performing other tasks related to credit risk as assigned. Work involves moderate difficulty in evaluating credit attributes of newly underwritten consumer loans, reviewing rules integrated in the decision engine, setting-up champion-challenger tests, and coding of new logic. The position will also determine risks associated with new products and policies and work with other departments to minimize loan losses related to fraud. Resources to do the job require reliance on credit analysis experience in Consumer Lending. General supervision is received from the Credit Risk Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Plays a key role in managing the decision engine. Becomes an expert in decision flows, rules and rule sets, data methods, non-statistical decision trees, and decision tables. Reviews built-in logic, sets-up champion-challenger tests, enters new rules and data methods, including some coding. Recommends new product strategies.
  • Reviews origination criteria with respect to credit risk and presents findings based on thorough analyses. Responsible for identifying opportunities to increase loan volume and decrease losses.
  • Performs self-directed analyses on hypotheses, supports new ideas with different types of data from the data warehouse, generates Power Point files and presents findings to management.
  • Partners with the Consumer Loan Product Manager to assist and support the development of new products and product enhancements.
  • Helps formulate and revise credit policy, procedures, and practices to maintain the loan portfolio’s quality and profitability. Works with other functional groups to implement necessary credit policy changes.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • One to five years of credit analysis experience in a financial institution with strong emphasis in Consumer Lending.
  • Some coding experience in Java, C++, MATLAB or statistical software (i.e., SAS, SPSS) is strongly desirable.
  • Hands-on FICO Blaze Advisor business rules management system or experience with automated loan decision software.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and compile financial data and present reports to senior management on ad hoc basis.
  • Strong, organizational, collaborative and consultative skills. Computer proficiency utilizing MS Office Suite and SAP BusinessObjects reporting.
