Tip Forty-Three
February 21, 2012
Know what you need.
You know it's tax season when you start receiving W-2s, 1099s, and other statements, but you'll also need other documentation to complete and submit your taxes by April 17, 2012. When meeting with your tax preparer, or doing it on your own, plan on having all documents related to income, investments, interest, deductions, credits and anything else that may require a tax return entry. On the credit side, if you participated in any government stimulus programs, such as home energy tax or new homebuyer tax credits, documentation also needs to be provided. If you are unsure on documentation, take whatever you have just in case. Don't wait until the eleventh hour to start gathering documentation, start collecting and organizing it now.
