Let Me Know When Alliant Rates Gets Even Better
The only difference is that a supplemental savings is an additional savings account. You can name each account based on your specific financial goals — saving up for a vacation, wedding, emergency fund, etc. — allowing you to more easily track your progress toward that goal.
Supplemental Savings Accounts can be opened in just a few easy steps in Alliant Online Banking. These accounts, dedicated to a particular financial need (emergency fund, holiday gifts, weddings, vacations, etc.), are a great way to reach your savings goals.
To optimize your savings, set up automated recurring transfers to your new account. Just select Transfer Money and indicate the account you want the money transferred from.
Please note that while there is no minimum balance required to keep your account open, you need to maintain an average daily balance of $100 to be eligible for dividends on your account.
Yes. You can have up to 19 supplemental savings accounts.
Federal regulations limit pre-authorized withdrawals to six per month per savings account.
The minimum balance to keep your savings account open is $5. To earn interest, you must maintain a daily average minimum balance of $100. Alliant interest is paid monthly.
Savings accounts are a convenient way for members to save money. Federal regulations restrict the number of electronic transactions on savings accounts to six per month, excluding personal withdrawals. For this reason, we provide members a limited-use Convenience Card, which permits members to withdraw cash from Alliant network ATMs. We encourage members to open a checking account for more flexible access to their money, while relying on a savings account for their money to remain and grow.

I have 10 or so supplemental savings accounts, for travel, for property taxes, for house repairs, and for each of the kids. Alliant's free transfers among such accounts lets me easily fund each account from checking each month, so I know I will do the saving and I easily see how much I have for any given project/use at any given time. When it's time to pay my property taxes, for example, I just move the funds back to my checking account the instant before I make the payment. Accounting and saving made easy! Before I had Alliant, I had to try to remember that I couldn't use so-and-so much money out of my one checking or saving account because it was earmarked for something. Now, it's all automated and easy to see! I love Alliant. Never going back to a bank again.
I use the different accounts to save for different things. I have a car account to save up for my next car. I do my own escrow on our house and that way I get to keep the interest and not the bank. I also have my emergency fund set up. It's a great feature I love!
I have struggled with how to save for big things since buying a home three years ago. I had to replace my roof last year and dreaded the idea of pulling $8000 out of my savings account. I now have three supplemental savings accounts (house, car, and vacation) that I deposit into automatically each month. It is extremely easy to do and helps me recognize when I have reached a point where I can afford another project (or vacation), or when I need to step up my savings in anticipation of future expenses. It's also great to think that I have money set aside in case of disaster, and quickly pull money from any of those accounts to cover it.
I love how easily I can open new supplemental savings account. My husband always laugh at how many accounts we have, but by opening a new account for our different short and long-term goals, we are able to have the money we need for all the things we want to buy or do. It's also so easy to transfer funds between accounts or to another bank.
I am very pleased with the multiple savings accounts and the capability to transfer funds between then and other institutions. I use one for business and tax purposes.
I keep 3 savings accounts. 1 is for all periodic savings that comes up through the year. #2 is for a vacation savings throughout the year.#3 is a prudent reserve- savings for a job loss or catastrophic emergency.
I am not sure that anything I say here will make or change anyone's thinking or attitude.
My ability to save is simple. LEARN HOW TO BUDGET, AND STICK TO IT.
For me, that's the secret. I have set up my two accounts, as I KNOW I have to pay my home taxes at the end of the year.
As well as my home owners insurance. Setting up the accounts allows me to make SURE I am CONSISTENT with this, each and EVERY month. So budgeting is essential. I have to stick with my plan. If not,I know that by the end of the year, I will be in trouble should I fail to maintain that consistency within myself.
I create specific names for each of my supplemental savings and have goals with scheduled deposits. i love that alliant allows me to do this as it keeps me organized and makes things easier. Its also better to track my progress
I always sing Alliant's praises because it's the only bank where they make it easy to create numerous supplemental savings accounts, and I can transfer between banks quite easily. I have one for taxes, emergency savings, one for vacation, one for home, etc. It's the best and I can see my progress for each one.
The ability to create separate accounts has helped us to not only establish a budget; but to KEEP it! I have different savings accounts for irregular needs such as Pet illness or car tags etc. .. earning interest till I actually need it .. I have my paycheck deposited and setup to money is transferred each pay period to my little buckets.. husbands spending account is even setup here.. with the new App, he can readily see how much he has in his spending account. Love, Love, Love this Credit union and how its helped me finally be able to budget!
