Alliant monitoring Home Depot payment card data breach

Alliant Credit Union is closely monitoring the recently reported payment card data breach at Home Depot stores. Home Depot has confirmed that its payment data systems have been breached, which could potentially impact customers who used payment cards at its U.S. and Canadian stores starting some time in April through September 2, 2014.

While Home Depot and federal law enforcement authorities conduct an investigation of this incident, Alliant Visa® credit and debit cardholders are protected against fraudulent purchases with Visa’s zero liability fraud protection. In addition, Alliant has implemented special fraud prevention strategies in response to the payment card breach at Home Depot stores.

If you used your Alliant credit or debit card at any Home Depot store between April and September 2 of 2014, we encourage you to review your account statements. Check your accounts for unauthorized transactions by logging in to Alliant Online Banking or by calling the toll-free number on the back of your card.

Currently, there is no evidence that debit card PINs were compromised. However, the full scope of the breach is still being investigated, so if you used your Alliant Visa debit card at a Home Depot store during the time window described above, you may also want to consider changing your debit card Personal Identification Number (PIN) as a precautionary measure. Additionally, you can set up automated notifications so that you will receive an alert each time your Alliant debit card is used. Both of these options are available to you free-of-charge through Alliant Online Banking.

If you believe your Alliant credit or debit card was fraudulently obtained and used without your authorization, you should contact us immediately at 800-328-1935 (24/7) and we will assist you, including reissuing a replacement Alliant Visa credit card or debit card.

The Home Depot is offering free identity protection services, including credit monitoring, to any customer who used a payment card at a Home Depot store from April 2014 to the present.
