Alliant Assists Charities with Spring ’09 Civic Affairs Initiatives

05/28/2009

Alliant's Civic Affairs Committee recently completed two springtime charitable initiatives, which both received outstanding support from Alliant employees and provided assistance to worthwhile charities.

Spring Fling Clothing Drive

During April, Chicago area employees participated in Alliant's 3rd Annual "Spring Fling Clothing Drive" coordinated by ATM Operations Supervisor and Civic Affairs Committee member Crystal Ellerson. Alliant employees contributed a tremendous total of 110 bags (mostly large plastic type), which were donated to the local Salvation Army for distribution to nearby residents in need. It's estimated that employees brought in well over 1,000 gently used clothing items for this initiative. In these trying economic times, there's no doubt the generosity of so many Alliant employees is extremely helpful and greatly appreciated by the Salvation Army and the Chicago area residents they serve.

Breast Cancer Walk to Empower

20 of Alliant's Chicago employees helped raise $2,000 by volunteering to walk or run on Mothers Day in the "Walk to Empower". The walk supports the Breast Cancer Network of Strength, formerly known as Y-Me. For the fourth consecutive year, this highly successful Civic Affairs initiative was coordinated by Alliant Operations Mgr. Jackie Bessert and her co-captain Albert Obay of Information Systems (IS) Dept. Alliant donated $100 on behalf of each employee who volunteered to participate on the United Airlines "Pink Team". United is a major sponsor of the race each year, along with McDonalds and other major corporations.

Alliant's "Walk to Empower" employee volunteers (pictured left to right) include:

Additional "Walk to Empower" volunteers not in the group photo include: Shaheen Ameer, Kevin Daly, Ericka Gorman, Irina Karavayeva, Aisha Khawaja, Al Kubilius and Lois Phillips.

In related news, Julie Pedone of Alliant's Los Angeles area Service Center participated again this year in the Revlon Run/Walk for Women. Additional employees involved in recent charitable events include Anthony Clarizio and Rich Holke (Autism walk), Kim Kirkwood (March of Dimes walk) and John Sweitzer (Huntington's disease walk). Alliant made a $100 donation on behalf of each of these employees to their designated charities.
