What did people wear in 1935 (when Alliant was founded)?

Let’s take a look at what was fashionable 75 years ago. Hats (and we’re not talking about baseball caps) were a must for men and women for both day and evening wear. Women had a vast selection of styles to choose from. Men typically wore a fedora (that matched their overcoat) and wore it at a rakish angle, tipped down over one eye. Shoulders were not taken for granted – both sexes often wore clothes with butterfly sleeves, banjo sleeves or exaggerated shoulder pads.
To dress acceptably, men wore wide and high-waisted pants, wide neckties with bold geometric designs and a three piece suit that included either a matching vest or sweater.
Women wore dresses with long halter tops, lace frocks and corsets. Dresses were cut to emphatically drape and mould the body. And gloves were mandatory. During this time zippers and nylon started to become popular. So did cotton – (after Chanel featured it in its high-fashion line, cotton was no longer strictly the fabric for cheap work clothes).
Meanwhile, sun tans and sunglasses became the rage – as did travel to resorts in Florida, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
