Do I need to have an Alliant IRA to be eligible to open an IRA certificate?

Yes. You must have or establish an IRA with Alliant prior to opening an IRA certificate. Additionally, the type of certificate must coincide with the type of IRA. For example, if you have a Roth IRA, you can only open a Roth Certificate. IRA certificates cannot be opened under a trust account. Please note: Individual Retirement Account (IRA) Certificates can't be opened through online banking.
