Security

E-mail and Text fraud is a common tool of an identity thief. It can take many forms, but usually for the same purpose of stealing personal information. Here are some examples:

Phishing scams
”Phishing” is where criminals send e-mail by the thousands in hopes of tricking unsuspecting consumers into sharing confidential information. These messages often include a link to a fraudulent website.

Phishing using a telephone number – “smishing”
“Smishing” is similar to “phishing”, but the fraudster uses a telephone number instead. When you call the phone number sent to you in a text message or email, a person or an automated response asks for your personal and/or account information.

While “phishing” and “smishing” are just a couple of examples of scams setup to steal your personal information, there are many more that exist today. Be cautious about any form of solicitation for your personal information from any source and remember, Alliant will NEVER solicit you for personal information.

When you call Alliant Credit Union, use only a phone number that comes from a reputable source, like your statement, the back of your credit or debit card or the phonebook.

Contact us immediately if you think unauthorized access or fraud has occurred in connection with your Alliant Credit Union accounts. Report such incidents to your closest Alliant Credit Union branch or call the Member Service Center at (773) 462-2000 or (800) 328-1935
