
Virus Collecting Financial Information
Alliant Credit Union has been informed that a computer virus that collects financial information has been detected. The virus, a Rootkit called ZBOT or ZeusBot, detects your online banking session and displays a second page that looks like your online banking login screen and shows the following warning message:
If the user provides the information it is saved on the local hard drive in a hidden file and is assumed to be sent at a later time to a malicious website.
At this time many Anti-virus engines are still not detecting the variants of this malware and removing the code from one’s machine or preventing its outbound notification, is difficult. If you believe your computer may have been infected consult a computer specialist.
Text Message Scam
Alliant Credit Union has been informed that a text message is being distributed to random cell phones with a message informing them there is a security message from their credit union. The message then instructs the recipient to call a phone number where they can enter personal information, such as their account number or credit/debit card number for security verification.
This is a fraudulent text message and phone number that have been setup to steal account information from financial customers. There have been reports that other financial institution’s customers and members have been receiving the same text message.
