Save Every Day: DIY Manicure

September 27, 2012 | Alliant Credit Union

Ladies, how much do you spend every month fluffing and primping so you always look your best?

Trips to the salon are always a fun treat, but some things you can do at home for much less money!

If a manicure is $20 and lasts a week, you're spending $80 per month just on your nails! Skip the salon and pick up your favorite polish at the store. You can also look at discount websites such as Groupon for daily specials on manicures or gift certificates to salons near you at a discount.

The more you practice painting your nails yourself, the more skilled you will become. The process gets faster and easier. Before you know it, your nails will look like they're fresh from the spa!

Invest in good quality tools for the task if you're taking the DIY approach. An emery board, clippers and your favorite polish will build the base of your collection. If you want a longer-lasting finish on your nails, invest in a bottle of topcoat nail polish.

Good luck and happy painting!
