Alliant Credit Union Foundation Donates $200,000 in 2013 Fiscal Year

The Alliant Credit Union Foundation donated approximately $200,000 to charitable causes during its recently completed Fiscal Year 2013, announced Foundation Chairman and Alliant Credit Union President & CEO Dave Mooney.

The Foundation, a 501c3 not-for-profit charitable organization, has a meaningful mission, according to Foundation Vice President Wayne Rosenwinkel: “We promote economic empowerment and self-sufficiency, especially in the communities where Alliant Credit Union members and employees live and work.”

During fiscal year 2013, Alliant’s Foundation awarded grants ranging from $500 to $30,000 to a variety of causes, including those summarized below:

Operation HOPE — Alliant’s Foundation aids Operation Hope through Foundation grants, and Alliant employees volunteer to teach its Banking on our Future financial literacy program. This spring, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky attended an Alliant-taught class at Algonquin Middle School in Des Plaines, Illinois. "Students with access to financial literacy classes through programs such as Banking on Our Future are provided an excellent opportunity that helps prepare them for financial success in life," said Schakowsky.

The class is part of a 4-course Banking on Our Future financial literacy curriculum developed by Operation HOPE, Inc., and taught to 8th grade students by Alliant employee volunteers.

Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Foundation — Through an online employment mentoring platform developed with a grant from the Alliant Credit Union Foundation, BPW’s Joining Forces Mentoring Plus® provides free financial education and job counseling to U.S. women veterans and military spouses.

Hadley School for the Blind — The Foundation continues to support the Forsythe Center for Entrepreneurship at Hadley.

Foster Care to Success — Alliant’s Foundation provided grants to the Foster Care to Success program, which provides educational guidance, financial aid and other help to youths aging out of foster care.

Prescott Elementary School, Chicago — The Foundation provided school supplies for Prescott’s students and reading books for its Family Book Program.

United Airlines Foundation — The Alliant Credit Union Foundation donated funds for United’s annual North Pole Fantasy Flight holiday festivities for seriously ill children at airports nationwide.

Special Olympics — This year-round program of sports training and athletic competition transforms its athletes’ lives through the joy of sport. The Foundation is proud to support it by donating to the annual Plane Pull for Special Olympics via payment of Alliant employee registration fees.

Multiple Sclerosis Society — The National Multiple Sclerosis Society was the beneficiary of a grant from Alliant’s Foundation and was the recipient of all funds raised at Alliant’s seventh annual employee volleyball tournament held in July of last year. Nearly $11,000 was donated to the MS Society through this event.

Salvation Army — Alliant’s Foundation supported a Salvation Army “holiday giving tree’ program to bring happy holidays to underprivileged children.

March of Dimes — The Foundation provided a matching grant for all funds raised by employees participating in the annual Blue Jeans for Babies Day, during which participating employees wore jeans to work in exchange for a donation to the March of Dimes.

Bears Care (Chicago Bears charity) — Alliant’s Foundation made a grant to Bears Care matching the amount raised by employees at Alliant’s annual Super Bowl Chili Day. Bears Care received nearly $6,500 from this event.

Bob Panzino Golf Tournament — The Alliant Credit Union Foundation continued its annual support of the Bob Panzino Memorial Golf Outing, benefiting the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon — The Foundation provided a sponsorship grant to support the city’s biggest day of the year for community service. The mid June event brought together hundreds of organizations and thousands of volunteers for paint up/fix up of local schools, community service centers, etc.

Many Foundation beneficiaries are selected based on recommendations of Alliant employees, whose lives and families have been affected by the causes that these organizations support. The Foundation also has a Matching Donations Program, which matches individual Alliant Credit Union employee charitable donations up to $200 per year.

“We are proud that our Foundation can provide support to charitable organizations, schools and other worthy causes, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve,” Mr. Mooney added.
